Row by Roe
We put Limavady, Co Derry yarn shop Row by Roe in the spotlight and hear from owner Lisa Smyth
Tell us a little bit about your shop?
Row by Roe is a small yarn shop in the historic, market town of Limavady, Northern Ireland. We are in the heart of the town next to the local arts centre overlooking the main street. We have been trading for two years now. We’re open Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 5pm.
Did you know that ‘Danny Boy’ was written here just across the road from my shop?
What brands of yarn do you stock?
We aim to stock a wide range of quality yarns including, Studio Donegal, Manos del Uruguay, Rico, Rowan, Stylecraft, DMC, Adriafil and Bernat.
In addition to commercially produced yarns we also supply small batch collections of locally spun and dyed yarns like Fine Fish Yarns.
What are your top selling yarns?
Our customers have such diverse taste that there is no one particular brand that outsells others.
What’s your most popular pattern?
Patterns tend to be seasonal so at present the most popular pattern sales would be on hats, scarves and accessories. Year round, baby patterns are always a hit.
Do you have a knitting group in your shop?
We have a fabulous knitting group of ladies who meet up once a week to show off their latest makes and enjoy each other’s company. Admittedly the quantity of cake and coffee consumed tends to exceed the amount of knitting!
Who’s your typical customer?
To be honest there is no typical customer as such. We are lucky to attract a wide spectrum of yarn lovers of all ages and walks of life.
Do you get involved with any charity knitting projects?
Last year we organised a knit-a-long to yarn bomb the trees in the town square and held raffles to raise money for The Alzheimer’s Society.
Do you stock any local designers, yarn producers or independent dyers?
We stock Fine Fish Yarns which is a Belfast produced hand-dyed merino yarn, also hand spun/ hand dyed yarn from Killyleagh.
Do you stock other crafts accessories?
Whilst crafting is not our focus we do stock felting supplies, weaving looms and have crafting kits for children.
