Amanda’s Hat design begins with a provisional cast on which allows for various different brim options.

Alternate brims:

Rib: CO 100 stitches and knit four rows of K1 P1 rib

iCord: Using CC provisionally cast 4 sts on to needle before the hat’s first stitch. Knit across the first three cast on stitches, then knit the last cast on stitch together with the first hat stitch through the back of the loop. Slip these four stitches from your right-hand needle back to your left needle and repeat pulling the yarn firmly on your first stitch to encourage the band to sit nicely. Work all stitches until you are left with only 4 stitches in total. Using Kitchener stitch join both sets of live stitches together.

With 4mm and A, CO 100 sts using provisional cast on. Connect in the round and pm to mark end of round. K all until piece measures 1 in (2.5 cm).

Switch to 4.5mm. Still with A, K 1 round. Then work colour pattern with A and B, repeating chart five times per round.

When color pattern is complete, continue knitting with A until piece measures 7 in (18 cm) or desired length. Then work decreases:
Row 1: *K3, k2tog,* repeat * to * across round = 80 sts.
Row 2: and all even rows until row 8: K across.
Row 3: *K2, k2tog,* repeat * to * across round = 60 sts.
Row 5: *K1, k2tog,* repeat * to * across round = 40 sts.
Row 7: K2tog across round = 20 sts.
Row 8: K2tog across round = 10 sts.

Cut yarn end, leaving an 8 inch (20 cm) trail. Thread yarn needle and pass through remaining sts and pull tight. Weave in yarn ends.

Using the crochet hook and A, undo provisional cast on and work one round of single crochet around hat base. Sew in ends.

Block and enjoy!
