Eco Mutt Natural Stuff for Dogs & Dog Lovers

Susan Lynch’s passion for natural products and animals brought about the launch of Eco Mutt, a range of natural vegan friendly grooming products and gifts for dogs and dog lovers.

Susan’s beloved springer spaniel Jerry, was the inspiration behind Eco Mutt.

Susan continues to add to the Eco Mutt range of natural products for dogs while also producing soaps for all the family with Susan’s other business, Cloud9 Handmade Soaps & Candles, which offers a range of natural soaps for humans.

Susan trained with Melinda Coss and her soaps are certified to EU guidelines. Handmade in Dublin, Susan’s products are 100% natural, paraben and toxin free, cruelty free and vegan friendly. They’re perfect for all, but especially for sensitive dogs.

The Eco Mutt Bar Soap is made with a blend of nourishing vegetable oils like olive and coconut oils and a blend of pure essential oils for a natural aroma. The Eco Mutt shampoo is made with moisturising shea butter and a blend of pure essential oils. The Eco Mutt Dry shampoo is made with soothing oatmeal and a blend of pure essential oils and is ideal if you have no time to wash your dog as you can use it as a refresh in between your regular grooming sessions.

Products can be bought directly from the website or from one of their stockists.

Soap Pretty Butterbeer Lip Balm and Four Houses of Hogwarts Soaps

Melissa and Jassette are the makers behind Soap Pretty brand.  With one of them being a vegan and the other a celiac, they began their soapmaking journey when they found it difficult to find cruelty free, vegan and gluten free products.

They use all natural ingredients including locally sourced oils and plants where possible, rainwater, essential oils and recycled packaging.

Each soap is made with love in the Soap Pretty kitchen in Dublin using the traditional cold process method, cut by hand then like a fine wine, allowed to cure for between 3-6 months before being beautifully packaged.

Huge Harry Potter fans, the duo were inspired to make a Harry Potter range of soaps, scrubs, lip balms and gift sets. Their delicious Butterbeer lip balm is incredibly popular.  It looks, smells and tastes exactly how you think Butterbear would be and comes beautifully presented in a handy screw top metal tin for €5 plus P&P.

The Soap Pretty Four Houses of Hogwarts soaps feature scents inspired by unique characteristics of the house common rooms. They are packaged in a page from a recycled Harry Potter book saved from pulping then finished with a traditional wax seal.

Products are available to purchase from the Soap Pretty website or Etsy Shop and you can keep up with all the duo’s news via their Facebook Page too.

Magic Sheep – Snag Free Flower Stitch Markers

We just had to include these beautiful little stitch markers in this issue.  Rachel is the talented maker who knits and crochets, but now spends the bulk of her free time making markers for other crafters to use instead.

Having started Magic Sheep about a year ago, in order to work from home whilst her children were little, Rachel’s markers are becoming understandably popular among the yarny community.

Made from polymer clay, each set of twelve markers includes a pair of six different flowers.  Each is not only pretty, but light and snag free, so as not to damage your precious makes.  The set of twelve markers are available in the Magic Sheep Etsy Shop for the extremely reasonable price of £6.50 plus P&P.

Keep up-to-date with all things Magic Sheep on the Facebook Page.

Gléasta Handbag Kit

Mary Coonan developed a passion for design and sewing as a child, and it was no surprise that Mary chose a career in that area.  After graduating from the Grafton Academy, she went on to design ladies and children’s clothing for several Irish companies.

Mary went on to set up Gléasta, specialising in designing and making one of a kind garments including christening robes, special occasion wear and Irish dancing costumes with an emphasis on quality and a high standard of workmanship. In 2011 she added a range of limited edition handbags to her collection including a range in handwoven Donegal Tweed.

Mary loves to share her passion for sewing and has been teaching for over 25 years. Her students loved her handbags and wanted to make their own and so Mary made up kits for them.  The kits come pre-cut with everything you need to make your own unique bag. Full instructions are included.  They come in a range of sizes and designs, including some unusual fabrics, many of which Mary has sourced in France, Germany and Holland.

In 2012 Mary exhibited at the Knitting & Stitching show in Dublin with great success and has been there every year since.

You can embellish your bag withtrims, buttons, beads to make it unique. The kits come with fabric shoulder straps, but you can shorten them to your preferred length or even replace them with purchased handles, which will give your bag a professional look.

In addition to the kits, Mary runs bag making courses. You arrive in the morning with your sewing machine and go home that evening with your completed bag.

A small range of kits are available on the website or you can visit the Gléasta stand at The Knitting & Stitching Show Dublin to see the full range. You can also follow Mary via Instagram or Facebook.

Trash Magic – Bee Happy Hand Embroidered Merit Badge

Trash Magic embroidery began as an experiment for Gillian, the inventive maker behind the needle.  She began with an old embroidery hoop and an idea from an article on the history of women’s political activism and feminism through textiles.

Far from the idea of embroidery as an idle pursuit for Victorian ladies, the idea of the merit badge embroidered style appealed to Gillian as something engaging, while also easily wearable and on trend.

Gillian has been stitching puns and doodles into patches for the last few years throughout college, having recently graduated from UCD School of Architecture.  Based in Slane, she would regularly spend an evening or weekend stitching or occasionally on the commute to and from work in Dublin.

Over the coming year Gillian hopes to expand the range, with more custom orders and by branching out into local craft markets.

Each design is totally unique, ranging in size from about 3.5cm to 5.5cm in diameter, and made entirely by hand using fine embroidery flosses and felts.  All pins and patches are available exclusively through the Trash Magic Etsy store and include gift boxing with each delivery.

Prices range from €5 – €16 (for a pack of four small) plus p&p.

Fiber to Fabric Magic – Needle Keeper

As you know, we’re always on the lookout for ingenious items to make our crafting life easier.  It’s fair to say that the Fiber to Fabric Magic Needle Keeper is one of those very things.

Claudia describes herself as a crazy girl who loves to play with yarn and create beautiful, unique things. She lives in the mountains of San Diego with her husband and best friend Larry, and their little helper D.O.G. (pronounced dee-OH-gee), a miniature Chihuahua.

Claudia has been knitting and crocheting for nearly 50 years. She invented the Needle Keeper because she was knitting socks on size #0 wood needles and broke a few needles while storing her work in her knitting bag. The Needle Keeper not only protects your needles, but also holds the live stitches on your needles, protects the joints of your needles (where the cable meets the shaft), protects the other items in your project bag, and the bag itself. You can feel free to shove your knitting and needles into your bag without worrying.

Needle Keepers are available in 12 fabulous colours and two different versions – Needle Keeper-SG (single cap) and Needle Keeper-DB (double cap). Each one is hand made in the US by Larry in his work studio. They’re made from lightweight, practically indestructible T6 Aircraft-hardened aluminium, with a pliable, sure-grip silicone cap that cannot wiggle off. The materials assure years of continued use and are hand-sanded individually with no sharp edges to damage needles, or you!

A Needle Keeper will hold needles as thin as US #00/1.75mm and up to two size US #9/5.5mm (both needles). NK-SGs (single) have ONE cap (with slit), while NK-DBs (double) have a cap (with slit) on both ends.

Simply slide your needles into the black end…that’s it! Your needles will not come out until you take them out. They will not bend, break, or get damaged and they won’t snag or get tangled up on what else is in your bag.

The Single Cap version costs $7.95, while the Double Cap version costs $9.95 (plus shipping of course). They are available from the Fiber to Fabric Magic Etsy Shop.  There will be a website in the very near future and Fiber to Fabric Magic is also on Facebook and Twitter.
