The Sunshine & Sprinkles Cowl, designed by Maria Grandfield, is the perfect introduction to colourwork. Taking less than 200 metres/219 yards in total, it’s an ideal stashbusting knit, that you can whip up for families and friends in a hurry. Ideal for getting ahead with some Christmas gift makes too..

A word about colour
Selecting colours with a high contrast will give the best results. More detail about why can be found in a post Lora recently about choosing shades for colourwork over on her blog.
We’re going to be kicking off our Knitalong on Sunday the 1st October, which will give you a couple of weeks to gather your supplies. Pop over to the pattern page and have a look at the different options. We’ve knitted our samples in Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino which is available in some fantastic shades, but you can use any sport weight yarn.
Another option is to use a double knitting weight yarn, but remember to choose a light yarn, nothing too heavy and to check your tension. Woolly wool whilst the optimum yarn for colourwork, might not be regarded as ‘next to skin soft’ by some people.
For the KAL, we’ll open a chatter thread on our Ravelry board for you to sign up, share your yarn choices and discuss the pattern in more detail.
The KAL will officially begin on Sunday 1st October, but you can join anytime, just be sure to add an ‘I’m in’ in the Ravelry Chatter Thread.
We’ll open a Finished Sunshine & Sprinkles thread for everyone to post photos of their completed cowls.
As it’s such a quick knit, the Knitalong will close on November 1st, so you’ll have just over four weeks to get a cowl (or two) made.
The good news is, we’ll have prizes, which we will tell you a little more about on our next podcast.
