What brands of yarn do you stock?
We stock a huge and varied range of brands, some popular examples being Sirdar, Rico, Ella Rae, Debbie Bliss, Peter Pan, Wendy, Patons, James C. Brett, Tivoli, Hoooked, Noro, and DY Choice. Do you have a knitting group in your shop?
We have a knitting group that meet on a Wednesday morning from 10.30am – 12.00 noon.
Who’s your typical customer?
Generally speaking, a large proportion of our customers are women aged 35+, however there are a growing number of younger knitters and crocheters taking up the skill and we are seeing more young people and men shopping in our store. We also have a large number of tourists shopping in our store due to the huge variety of Irish yarn we have on offer.
Do you get involved with any charity knitting projects?
We have been involved in a number of charity knitting projects, including knitting and crocheting hats for the Simon Community, the ‘Octopus for a Preemie’ campaign involving making octopuses for premature babies, donating wool to the Girls Club to make Blankets of Hope for people undergoing chemotherapy, and organising and hosting events for ‘Knitted Knockers‘ (knitting and crocheting an alternative to prosthetics for breast cancer survivors).
Do you stock any local designers, yarn producers or independent dyers?
We are passionate about Irish yarn and the Irish wool trade. We believe in supporting the industry right from the Irish sheep farmers through to the woollen mills, the hand spinners and dyers, and on to Irish pattern designers. We stock ranges from Kerry Woollen Mills, Cushendales (Co. Kilkenny), Studio Donegal Aran Tweed, Studio Donegal Soft Donegal, Donegal Irish Heather and our newest addition S Twist Wool which is all hand produced in Tipperary and Dublin. S Twist Wool are currently dyeing our own Vibes & Scribes shade of yarn. We have begun commissioning exclusive knitting and crochet patterns from Irish designers which we hope will spotlight not only the designers themselves, but also Irish yarns.
Do you stock other crafts accessories?
Across three floors, we stock a huge range of dress-making and quilting fabrics, millinery supplies and haberdashery, crafting supplies and art materials, as well as all our yarn and knitting/crochet supplies. We have an online shop (shop.vibesandscribes.ie) where you can shop over 10,000 of our products across all departments.
