The Wool Shop

The Wool Shop

We put Woolshop, two yarn shops, one based in Bangor and one in Newtownards, in the spotlight.

Tell us a little bit about your shop?

We are Woolshop and we’re based in the east of Northern Ireland in the towns of Bangor and Newtownards. We’ve been proudly serving our local communities for over 25 years! We’re open Monday to Saturday 9am – 5pm.

What brands of yarn do you stock?

We stock Sirdar, Hayfield, Sublime, King Cole, Wendy, Robin, Peter Pan, James C Brett, Rico, Stylecraft, Tivoli and Woolcraft. We also stock a huge range of buttons, ribbons, haberdashery, sewing machines and patchwork fabric.

What are your top selling yarns?

Our customers love Sweetie and Pompom for blankets as well as the whole range of James C Brett baby yarns, and of course Hayfield Aran is always a firm favourite!

What’s your most popular pattern?

All our baby patterns are really popular and of course ‘toys’ have been really popular recently so the King Cole Tinsel patterns never stay in stock too long!

Do you have a knitting group in your shop?

We don’t at present but we’ve opened up space to allow knitting groups to meet in our shops free of charge and we have a few starting in September.

Do you get involved with any charity knitting projects?

We have a long history of supporting charity knits. In the past we’ve supported Hats for Heroes, Overseas Projects, Hats for Homeless and ‘twiddlemuffs’.

Who’s your typical customer?

We don’t really have a typical customer because we stock such a diverse range of products. We’ve lots of Mums, Aunties and Grandmas looking for that special baby project but we also get lots of younger girls just starting to knit their first hat or scarf.

Do you stock other crafts accessories?

Yes, everything from toy stuffing to crochet hooks and sewing machines to tape measures.

Are you on social media?

Yes we’re on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and you can also find us at
